Anthony Hecht papers

Abstract

Anthony Hecht (1923-2004), one of the leading poets of his generation, is most well-known for his anthology The Hard Hours (1967), generally seen as his break-through volume. Hecht's small holding of papers, separated from his donated book collection, includes handwritten and typewritten correspondence, as well as clippings, programs, and other forms of ephemera. The materials range from 1982 to 2005, the later years of Hecht's literary career.

Anthony Trollope collection

Anthony Trollope (1815–1882) was one of the most successful, prolific and respected English novelists of the Victorian era. This collection includes materials related to Anthony Trollope, including pamphlets about Trollope and an item from the Trollope Society. Of particular interest is a February 16, 1862 letter written by Trollope to A.N. Zevely (?) of Baltimore. The collection spans 1862 to the mid-20th century.

Antonio Magliabechi letter

Abstract

The collection consists of one hand-written letter of Florentine bibliophile, Antonio Magliabechi. The letter is written in Italian and bound into a volume along with a typescript English translation. Also in the volume is a copy of D'Israeli's biographical description of Magliabecchi from Curiosities of Literature. The letter was written August 24, 1697 to author, Giovanni Giustino Ciampini (1633-1698).

Apache playing cards collection

Scope and Contents These two badges have the same design of a laurel wreath topped with a heraldic sun surrounding an image of two clasped hands holding a pike topped with a Phrygian (or liberty) cap. This collection contains two diaries dating from 1864-1865 which belonged to Artemus Chapel, who was a surgeon for the Union Army during the American Civil War. The diaries describe the medical treatment and management of Union soldiers and Confederate prisoners-of-war, mostly during his time serving under the 3rd Army Corps as Medical Director, during which he was Chief Surgeon at the West’s Building Hospital in Baltimore.
